Brief description of the company

Victor O. Schinnerer & Co. is one of the largest and experienced underwriting managers of specialty insurance programs in the world.
The Schinnerer Group currently handles nearly $500 million in premiums on behalf of several insurance carriers and through a large network of over 9,600 active brokers. Schinnerer offers a number of lines of coverage across several professional disciplines, issuing over 46,000 policies.
Schinnerer offers services for all industry types, from environment to energy and health.

The challenge

For a long time, Schinnerer had a legacy application for each of its Line of Business and was looking to replace it. Schinnerer initially partnered with a Russian provider to build a first version of this system, the Underwriting Management System (UMS).
The UMS is a suite of applications that provides support to Schinnerer’s core business in operations such as rating, bidding, policy insurance and billing. The UMS system uses a third party software to bring a complete solution:

  • Oracle Documaker (document generator)
  • Livelink ECM - Enterprise Server (document management)
  • Nexsure (brokers and insurance management)
  • Microsoft Dynamic NAV (accountability)

Solution

To completely satisfy Schinnerer’s needs, there were some changes (new features, improvements) to introduce to UMS.
The first phase included some improvements to the existing application, developing minor enhancements and fixing bugs. Also, Hexacta´s engineers performed maintenance and user support.
The second phase of the project involved the specification and development of new modules for UMS including midterm endorsements, cancellations, claims, expirations and renewals.
Hexacta´s team specified the new system requirements for both project phases.
